SPECIAL COUNCIL MEETING

July 27, 2023

The City Council of the City of Fayette, Iowa, met Thursday, July 27, 2023, at 6:00 pm in the Community Room at the Fayette Community Library pursuant to law and rules of said council, Mayor Wood presiding. The meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance.

Roll call: Present – Council members Lowery (via phone), Post and Tucker; Absent-Potratz and Scott.

Moved Post, seconded Lowery to approve the agenda as resented. All ayes, motion carried.

Moved Tucker, seconded Post, to go into closed session pursuant to Iowa Code Section 21.5(1)(i) to evaluate the professional competency of an individual whose appointment, hiring, performance, or discharge is being considered when necessary to prevent needless and irreparable injury to that individual’s reputation and that individual requests a closed session. All ayes, motion carried.

Moved Tucker, seconded Post to open special session. Roll call, all ayes, motion carried.

Moved Post, seconded by Tucker to direct the mayor to move forward with an offer to the chosen candidate for the City Clerk/Administrator position. All ayes, motion carried.

Moved Tucker, seconded Lowery to go into closed session per Iowa Code 21.5(1)(j) to discuss the purchase or sale of particular real estate only where premature disclosure could be reasonably expected to increase the price the governmental body would have to pay for that property or reduce the price the governmental body would receive for that property. Roll call, all ayes, motion carried.

Moved Post, seconded Lowery to open special session. Roll call, all ayes, motion carried.

Moved Lowery, seconded Tucker to direct Mayor set up a meeting with North Fayette Valley to review counteroffer prior to August 1, 2023. All ayes, motion carried.

There being no further business, Wood declared the meeting adjourned at 7:10 pm.
